My dilemma is that I don’t think Luther is as central to the reformation as most people give him credit for. Infact, when Luther was in exile he went to stay with Ulrich Zvingli in Switzerland – Zvingli was already and established Reformer.
Yes, Luther translated the Scriptures from Latin into the Germanic tongue and left us the Lutheran translation of the Bible, but Tyndale did the same thing for the English translation which is more relevant to us in this country.
When John Knox became dissenchanted with the C.o.E, it was to Zvingli that he went for advice. Luther was bypassed. Jean Calvin also went to Zvingli during his exile from France.
Infact, almost 100 years before Luther came to prominence the predecessors of the Moravians (Morivingens) were making a stand against the heresies of Rome.
I don’t hold Luther in the same high station that other Reformers do because there were other more important people who had a larger part to play and they are being overlooked.
